My experience in making Jamun

Hey, Today's post is a festival special blog.

I decided to help my mother with her cooking.  She told me that I can help with preparing Jamun.  She poured in the jamun mix and gave little water to prepare dough.  So I mixed it and made the dough by kneading it thoroughly, while my mother was preparing the sugar syrup.  After around half an hour Jamun was ready.

I have been making the balls for the Jamun from around the age of 5, as helping my mother in kitchen is one of my hobbies.  But today it was little different.  As I said earlier, my experience in Jamun making till now was with making balls. But today, I kneaded the dough as well. I had a lot of fun helping my mother with the Jamuns. My mother said the cooking was quicker this time (as I helped her), but I do not know how much quicker it was!!!   Shall I tell a secret? Actually I do not think it was that quick at all.

This is the picture of the jamun soaked in the sugar syrup

Now I will tell the recipe to make jamun.

  1. Take a pack of Jamun mix and pour it in a bowl.
  2. Take water and add it little by little into the bowl because if you put a large amount of water, the jamun will start cracking when fried and you don't want that.
  3. Mix the two ingredients mentioned above with hand to prepare a proper dough.
  4. Then apply ghee or oil to your hand.  This way it is easier to make balls from the dough.
  5. Now make the balls.
  6. Start preparing the sugar syrup. You do this by adding equal amounts of water and sugar and bringing to boil in thick bottom pan. (I am sure there is a better name for the thick bottom pan).
  7. While the mixture is boiling add saffron and cardamom.
  8. Now take oil in a frying pan, fry the balls prepared in step 5.
  9. Fry the jamuns till they turn dark brown.  (Remember, until you dip the jamuns in the syrup the jamuns will taste bland!!!, but its ok to have the fried bland jamuns as well.)
  10. Now put the fried jamuns into the sugar syrup, allow it to set in the syrup for a while.
  11. Now the yummy Jamuns are ready to eat!
  12. Enjoy either or cold!!!!
My mother told me if refrigerated jamuns will be fresh for many days.

I hope you like my blog.

Please try the recipe and tell me if you liked it!
